SuperTopo, a less aesthetic and less referenced version of MountainProject, likewise provides forum interaction and information regarding routes and climbing areas. The site is mentioned by just two* long-time climbers surveyed for this project. Both cite SuperTopo as a reputable source of information, more so than MountainProject or Reddit. One flatly says they use it for "specific questions I don’t want dumb answers to" while the other says that "SuperTopo is fantastic for masochists like myself" (implying that the community is for climbers who climb hard and try daring routes). This data indicates that SuperTopo is either intentionally or unintentionally not well advertised, as only long-time, experienced climbers seem to be aware of its existence. It may be intentionally unadvertised to keep the word-of-mouth tradition and reputation of experienced answers, or unintentionally unadvertised, lending to its relative anonymity when compared with MountainProject. SuperTopo also has a limited reach when compared with MountainProject: it caters to the American Southwest, California, and Alaska, listing mostly only challenging climbing areas.

*For complete disclosure and accuracy, it is worth noting that both these climbers have been dating for a long time and consistently rely on each other for climbing material and information.
