One form of written content available widely across the web is gear reviews. They appear on manufacturers' websites, retail stores websites', MountainProject forums, Reddit responses, and even slither their way into Instagram accounts. Because climbers are often trusting their gear with their lives, the gear reviews found on climbing content are often thorough, and like any good internet review, highly opinionated. The spread of online shopping has opened the review as a new form of media, and the climbing community is no exception to that rule. In fact, there are even entire websites dedicated to testing and reviewing gear (even though most has already undergone thorough testing to UIAA safety standards). One such example is OutdoorGearLab, which tests and compares all varieties of gear. This exchange of information is a means of communication and learning, even if it is not often considered one.

Gear reviews come in all shapes and sizes: sometimes they appear on other platforms, such as Instagram (pictured), MountainProject, or YouTube.

Some sites, such as retail sites or Outdoor Gear Lab, are built specifically for reviews. The written content is yet another interaction between text mediums and the climbing community.
