Magazines are a form of content mentioned less frequently than books, but still mentioned within the responses. The consensus regarding magazines seems to indicate they are more for news and entertainment than any form of learning. As one climber put it, some "tend to not have a lot of content in their publishing, and fill the role of tabloid journalism within the community." Another wryly commented that their use of one specific magazine, while sometimes used for reading, was also because they "don’t want [their] coffee table to get rings." Specific names of magazines mentioned include Rock and Ice, Alpinist, Climbing.com, and Outside. Aside from the few climbers who seemed to have specific subscriptions, magazines were notably absent from the conversation. This is not surprising, considering few turned to books or written material to begin with, and those who were looking for entertainment turned to video formats and the live-action interaction of forum posting.
