MountainProject is a versatile website that is part forum, part guidebook. The forums boast everything from climbing tips to area guides to gear reviews, while the Route Finder section allow access to thousands of routes across the country. Users can even interface the site through a mobile app that allows for offline use. The reception towards MountainProject is marginally warmer than Reddit, and the website is better known than SuperTopo among the interviewed climbers. (It is important to note, however, that interviewees were specifically asked about MountainProject in their interviews, whereas Reddit, SuperTopo, and 8a.nu were not mentioned in the questions). MountainProject is funded by REI Co-op, perhaps lending to its visibility among the climbing community. It also has a easy-to-use interface, a wide range of routes and topics, and peripheral access to other climbing websites and magazines. The site has a slightly better reputation than Reddit among the interviewed set of climbers. Furthermore, there is an inclination towards outdoor climbing on MountainProject (as opposed to Reddit's combined indoor-outdoor mix) perhaps improving its status in the eyes of the community. Despite this, climbers report using MountainProject as a handy back-up to other more prominent resources. Some thoughts from the interviewed climbers can be read below.
