Reddit: mentioned by many and loved by few. Only one climber specifically makes note of using r/climbing and r/climbharder as a method of learning. The rest make use of it for entertainment and not much more. So what sets Reddit apart from MountainProject? Both are forum based, both are well-known and well-advertised, and both have a large, easily-accessible user base. The difference seems to lie in the posters themselves (or at least the perception of those posters as described by the climbers interviewed). One climber, in an informal social interaction, flat-out said, "Don't trust anything you read about climbing on Reddit. Most of the people that comment don't know what they are talking about." This idea is affirmed time and time again by others.

Here, the interviewed climber refers to the satirical thread r/climbingcirclejerk, implying the use of Reddit for entertainment more than factual information.

And, a personal favorite interaction, while contacting a fellow climber to send them questions to be interviewed. It is well-known that the climber whose name is redacted has strong opinions on Reddit, and this opinion was brought up without reference to forum-based sites at all. The only information the textee had at the moment was that the project was about books and media in climbing.

With all of this animosity towards Reddit in particular, and with some towards MountainProject, there are multiple analyses to be undertaken for the use of these sites, the respect climbers have for these sites, the trustworthiness of these sites, the reasoning behind preference and popularity of one site over another, and the place forums have as a written medium within the community as a whole. For more on this topic, please refer to the analysis thread.
